Stanislav Belkovsky: Russia getting ready to inflame major war

Stanislav Belkovsky, a political analyst, is convinced that while Europe and the US are trying to preserve peace, Russia is preparing to fuel a major war.

“This week the decision was made whether the US is to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine.

There quite a lot of influential people in Washington who believe that American weapons should be provided to Ukraine for sure. It is to become a decisive factor and turn the tide in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. As a rule, supporters of arms deliveries are not in power. They should not be responsible for anything. Their position of hawks is a win-win policy. If weapons are supplied – they receive a moral victory, no matter what consequences are. If not – they are to win as well, as they are to prove that Barack Obama who is in power is a man with no guts.

And people in power understand what is the price paid in reality. Obama is hesitating. And Angela Merkel, who is informally responsible for war and peace in entire Europe, has said almost directly: no American weapons would make Vladimir Putin admit defeat. If translated from the diplomatic language, it means: these deliveries, if they are to take place, would give Putin an excuse to answer in a way that no one would find it funny.

Merkel is right. The US weapons are to become an argument for our president to legalize the clandestine war. Then it would not be necessary to send alleged soldiers “on leave” to south east of Ukraine. Other people with other weapons are to be sent there then. It would be not as perfect as the current American one, but quite lethal as well.

Europe is in a great fear of a major war in Europe: the value of European life in recent 70 years, and especially the last 25 years, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, has become too high. And the US is a little afraid of a major war in Europe as well. Not so much as Europe itself, certainly. This war is unlikely to spread over the ocean. But in line with its ally treaties, especially in the framework of the NATO, in case of the war the AU would have to defend Europe somehow. And the price of an American life had always been very high.

And only we, Russia, are not afraid of a major war. We seem even to aspire to it. Let’s watch propaganda programmes on the main federal TV channels to be clear about it.

Despite trillions of oil and gas dollars which had been raining on us over the last 15 years, we still cannot organize our peaceful life. It’s really frustrating. And what could quench this awful frustration? A war. A war in which neither ourselves nor others are spared,” he wrote.
