Russia at Minsk demanded ceasefire be introduced after 20 days

The ceasefire topic dominated the discussions during the Minsk talks in the “Normandy format”.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during the opening of the National Security and Defense Council meeting on Wednesday evening that during the peace talks in Minsk Russia demanded that a ceasefire be put in place only after 20 days, a UNIAN correspondent has reported.

According to Poroshenko, the ceasefire topic dominated the discussions during the Minsk talks in the “Normandy format” between the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia on February 12.

"At first we received a very strange proposal regarding the ceasefire being introduced after 20 days. That means that for three weeks Ukrainians would actually have had to [continue to] be under fire from Russian mercenaries, with Ukraine paying a very high price," Poroshenko said.
