Elmar Brok: West can provide Ukraine with AT

United States and some EU countries may provide Ukraine with the AT.

If pro-Russian separatists continue fighting, it will lead to new sanctions against Russia and possible assistance of the United States and some EU countries to provide Ukraine with the AT.

Elmar Brok, the member of the European Parliament, stated that, Deutsche Welle reports.

"Putin must also ensure withdrawal of heavy weapons in the next few days," Brok said.

In his view, if pro-Russian separatists continue fighting, it will lead to "an escalation of both sides". "Then Russia will face new sanctions, and perhaps the United States and some EU countries will provide Ukraine with the AT", Brok said.

In addition, he requires "stronger mandate" for the OSCE observers in eastern Ukraine.

"The OSCE staff should have a stronger mandate and be able to better protect themselves when they check compliance with the ceasefire", the MEP said.

In his opinion, it is necessary to better equip observers and provide them with drones.

The MEP understands the position of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to send peacekeepers in Ukraine at the request of Kiev.

"This is a call for assistance", Brok said. Europe, he said, could not leave Poroshenko in trouble.

However, the MEP expressed skepticism in the possibility to send the UN and EU peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.
