Bronislaw Komorowski: Poland will support sending UN peacekeepers to Ukraine

Warsaw is ready to give its consent to sending peacekeeping forces to eastern Ukraine, but only if the war in Donbas is stopped.

President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski said it in an interview with Polskie Radio, TASS reports.

“Ukraine can count on our support in what concerns a request for the UN peacekeeping forces if Kyiv files such a request,” he said.

The Polish leader notes that the idea of deploying peacekeepers inside he ATO zone and along its perimeter has sense only if there are no armed clashes in the region.

“It is not easy, because peacekeeping operations only have sense during a truce. It is difficult to send soldiers if the war goes on,” Komorowski added.

Ukraine's foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin said during a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York that Ukraine insisted on sending UN peacekeepers to establish peace in Donbas.
