Brest journalists receive threats of violence

Brest journalists receive threats of violence

The incident happened as they were filming a story about the demolition of historic buildings.

Freelancer Aliaksandr Liauchuk from Brest say that the journalists were making a story about the demolition of a unique architectural ensemble of wooden houses that were built in Brest for poor Jewish families on donations of the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in the 1920s, Viasna human rights centre reports.

An aggressive security guard came to the journalists and forbade them to enter the area of future construction works. He said the journalists didn't have permission from the firm director and hard hats (though he didn't wear a hard hat either).

Another man approached the journalists and began to insult them. He promised to hit them in the face. He entered the territory of the future construction site without a hard hat. The journalists continued shooting behind the fenced area, where a shopping centre is going to be constructed instead of the demolished historic buildings.
