Workers of Homel's Plant of Casting and Standard Parts have to go on holidays

The personnel department says there's no work at the plant.

Charter97.org learnt from a reader from Homel what happens at the Plant of Casting and Standard Parts.

“The management of the plant, which is a part of Gomselmash group of companies, forces employees to take unpaid days off almost every Friday and Monday.

Plant director Anatoli Kvitanau says the enterprise has no problems, workers take days off voluntary. Gomselmash pays its workers two-thirds of a salary, while our director and top managers probably so fear to lose their posts that they are ready to leave people without means of living.

The so called trade union led by its eternal leader Mikalai Malakhau parasites on employees. They do not give us aid or support. These 'defenders' easily agree to any decisions of managers that violate terms of employment contracts and worsen workers' conditions. The plant has launched the so called staff optimisation,” the worker writes.

A representative of the plant told charter97.org that the enterprise had no work, employees “understand it and go on holidays voluntary”.

“People do not work if we don't have work. Every workshop has the average staff number and must comply with the figures. Of course, workers need to take days off.

The plant employs 5,000 workers who make products worth, for example, 5 million. If we have no work and they come to work every day, they will just do nothing. What will we get in result? Workers must receive wages, but the plant doesn't have money to pay them. The plant will suffer losses. We want to support workers, so we limited the staff number. Workers understand it and take two or three or sometimes more days off a month to do their household tasks,” the personnel department says.
