Belgips company lays off workers

Managers try to dismiss employees in such a way as to avoid paying compensation to them.

Charter97.org learnt it from a worker of the plant.

“About 100 out of 300 workers will be laid off. They dismiss everyone – workers with 30-year experience and those who will retire next year. They try to dismiss workers by mutual consent or transfer to them to lower positions, such as loaders and janitors. Of course, no one wants to get a worse job. They find other ways to dismiss workers and avoid paying layoff compensation worth three monthly salaries. The average salary is about $200,” he says.

Belgips was bought by Russia's Volma company last year.

Many companies work short weeks or force workers to take unpaid leaves. In the first days of March, charter97.org received complaints from Gomselmash, the Automobile Units Plant in Asipovichy, the Concrete Products Plant in Svetlahorsk, the Tractor Parts and Units Plant in Babruisk, Mogilevtransmash, Strommashina, the Minsk Tractor Plant, Gomeldrev, the Minsk Bearing Plant, Belarusian Railway, Vitebsk Products company and others.
