German Foreign Minister: Meeting in Berlin showed differences in positions of Moscow and Kyiv

The talks between the “Normandy Four” foreign ministers in Berlin highlighted the differences in the positions of Kyiv and Moscow on the crisis in eastern Ukraine.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said it on Tuesday after a meeting with the foreign ministers of Russia, France and Ukraine, according to Russian news agency TASS.

"We had an intense and somewhat argumentative conversation. It showed up the differences of opinion between Kyiv and Moscow," Steinmeier said.

"Today's meeting confirmed how difficult the situation is. The way will be long, but if we do not follow it, the situation may get out of our control," he said.

At the same time, according to Steinmeier, Ukraine agreed to appoint its representatives to the sub-working groups in the Tripartite Contact Group.

"Finally, we agreed to establish four working groups. I hope that the names of the representatives will be announced at the next meeting of the Tripartite Contact Group. Ukraine also promised to do this," he said.

"All this will help to improve the humanitarian situation in the east of the country and to restore its infrastructure," Steinmeier said.
