Kalyakin’s party condemned de-communisation in Ukraine

The Just World said the ban on Soviet and Communism symbols in Ukraine contradicts European norms.

The statement of the former Party of the Communists of Belarus, which is headed by Syarhei Kalyakin, “Nasha Niva” quotes.

“The Verkovnaya Rada of Ukraine has adopted a law under which, in violation of the generally accepted norms of the international law, propaganda of Communism ideology, use of Communistic names and symbols, are banned in Ukraine. Besides, Communism and Nazism are equated. At the same time, a law on honoring the memory of participants of fight for Ukraine’s independence in the 20th century, a law which causes indignation, is adopted. Among such fighters members of the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists) and the UPA (the Ukrainian Insurgent Army) and the like infamous organisations are enumerated. The third law bans the official use of “the Great Patriotic War”. Thus the Verkhovna Rada effaced from the history of Ukraine one of its most heroic pages,” the statement reads.

“The Belarusian Leftist party “Just World” believes that the adopted laws contradict the generally recognized norms of the international law and the Constitution of Ukraine, undermine the fundamental principles of the democratic system of the state, liquidate the political rights and freedoms of citizens. Their practical implementation is to result in escalation of tensions and even greater split in the Ukrainian society,” former Communists warn. “The Belarusian leftist party “Just World” condemns any attempts to re-write the heroic history of the Great Patriotic War, downgrade and distort the role of millions of real patriots of Ukraine, the entire Soviet nation in the great Victory over Fascism.”
