NATO to strengthen Corps Northeast in Poland

Defence ministers of Germany, Poland and Denmark have confirmed their plans to strengthen the Multinational Corps Northeast based in Szczecin, Poland.

Defence ministers of the NATO states, Germany, Poland and Denmark, have confirmed their plans to expand the Multinational Corps Northeast based in the city of Szczecin in Poland.

As noted by Germany’s Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to the Corps, at the moment “in addition to our Polish,Danish partners and us, Germans, representatives of 15 more countries” are present there, Deutsche Welle informs with a reference to AFP.

]as said by the minister, before the NATO summit in Warsaw next year, military personnel from more than 20 countries are to be represented in the Corps.

In Szczecin Ursula von der Leyen had a meeting with his counterparts from Poland and Denmark –Tomasz Siemoniak and Nicolai Wammen. The minister assured her colleagues that Germany is going to deploy 100 soldiers in Szczecin, which is to make one fourth of the Corps.

As noted by Poland’s Defence minister, his country is supporting an idea that “a maximum of allies in the Alliance should be represented in Szczecin.” “Poland seriously counting upon development of the Corps,” Tomasz Siemoniak said. According to Siemoniak, defence capabilities of the NATO in Eastern Europe should be increased, and the Corps should become “an organizer of defence in Eastern Europe.”
