The company in Zhodzina which manufactures Belarusian knitwear, has been in fact transferred to a four-days week.

It was reported by a reader of charter97.org. “In Zhodzina OAO Svitanak, is doing really bad! Since the beginning of the year almost all Fridays are days off. Until 2015 at least two thirds of salary was paid for them, but now people are not even paid for the idle time. Since May 8 the gas supply service shut off gas and even sealed all valves for non-payment. Wages are little, and they are delayed all the time. I do not even know what will happen next,” the reader writes.

The office of the CEO of the company denied comment on the situation, referring to the fact that “we have a day off today, no representatives of management are preset.”

Transferring loss-making enterprises to a shorter working week is a usual mechanism of Belarusian chief executives’ response to crisis occurrences in the economy.

Earlier, in March, OAO Vitsebsk plant of electrical measuring instruments, and in the beginning of the year – two large machine building enterprise: OAO BelTAPAZ and OAO Hrodna plant of trade machine building were transferred to a shorter working week.
