The Tax Ministry worries about shopping abroad.

The problem of shopping abroad was raised by Halina Hurynouskaya, a deputy head of the Minsk department of the Tax Ministry, at a press conference, Minsk-Novosti reports.

Minks tax inspectors ordered 1,500 Minsk residents to file a tax return in the first four months this year. They are going to check incomes of those who go on shopping trips abroad too often.

“We are working in several directions. The first category is the people who regularly cross the state border of the Republic of Belarus, including those who bring goods into our country,” Hurynovich said. “The second category is unemployed people and people with low incomes who made expensive purchases. The third category is the people who took loans and credits and declared them as their source of income. The tax inspection continues to keep an eye on those who spend too much, buy flats, luxury houses, land plots and vehicles. This year, we turned attention to individuals who own non-residential premises – a total of 500 people in Minsk – and those who own more than 4 flats – a total of 26 Minsk residents.”

Tax inspectors also want more information about the people who paid 100% for flats in residential communities Aquamarine, Park City, Izumrudny, Vivaldi, Vivaldi 2, Tchaikovsky, Parus, or bought property worth more than 1 billion rubles, or bought vehicles worth more than 500 million rubles.

In 2013, Lukashenka proposed to impose a duty of $100 on the people going on shopping trips abroad.
