Ukraine defended its land during the Second World War, as well as today, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated.

Any aggressor, who dreams of new territories, brandishes weapons and has no regard for people's will, will surely follow the fate of Hitler's regime. Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated that in his message dedicated to Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, gordonua.com reports.

, he pointed out.

The Prime Minister noted that "a subtle aggressor who trampled down the international law, flouted treaties of friendship, and strove to destroy half the world," faced a military tribunal. This scenario, he says, is waiting for any other aggressor.

Yatsenyuk noted that seven million Ukrainians went off to war, half of them died; the population of Ukraine during the war was reduced by 14 million people.

"We wish eternal glory to those died and express deep respect for our veterans. It is an unfadable act of courage. We defended our homeland, as well as we do it now. And we will gain a victory again!" he stressed.

Today, on May 8, Ukraine celebrates the Remembrance and Reconciliation Day. President Petro Poroshenko's Decree No. 169/2015 "On Events in 2015 on the 70th Anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in Europe and the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II" from March 24 established this holiday.

On April 9 the Verkhovna Rada decided to celebrate Remembrance and Reconciliation Day on May 8 in honour of all victims of the Second World War, and left May 9 as the Victory Day over Nazism.
