The National Bank asks banks whether duty for online shopping is possible

23

A few Twitter users uploaded photos of the letter, allegedly received by all the Belarusian banks.

In the statement Taras Nadolny, first Deputy Chairman of the main Financial Department, asks for suggestions "on a possibility and viability" of duty for online shopping, Nasha Niva reports.

"Please, not later than July 6 provide us with defensible proposals on the duty viability with bank cards on the Internet." When considering the issue, please, take into account such matters as the existence of possible payment method separation; online payment methods currently used by a client; international practice of the use of extra fees and restrictions when online shopping, etc.", the letter says.

The idea resonates with the statement of the Chairman of the "Council of Republic" Mikhail Miasnikovich. "The Belarusians receiving parcels from abroad must pay the value added tax", he suggested on July 1.

The letter signed by Sachkouskaya. Aksana Sachkouskays is the chief specialist of the Electronic Payment Instruments Department. She said she was not authorized to comment upon the situation. The National Bank's press-service says that they have not seen the copy on the Internet, therefore reneged on explanations.

The Twitter user, who uploaded the picture, assumed "the National Bank is informally against, but has an order".
