Authorities of Zhodzina ban Kupala Night again

Officials of the town of Zhodzina destroy the old Belarusian tradition by administrative means.

Does the town of BelAZ trucks need this tradition?

The celebration of Kupala Night was banned in Zhodzina for the second year in a row. The authorities explain their decision with “bitter experience of the last few years” and the fact that the fest allegedly ended with “an ordinary drinking party” with “numerous violations” and “failure to obey legal orders of police officers”, Radio Racyja reports.

The official newspaper of the city executive committee, Zhodinskiye Novosti, disparages the tradition and writes about alleged “disorders” and a “bad aftertaste” after the celebration. It complaints that the “cleaning services” don't want to recall “the state of the city beach” the next day after the celebration.

It turns out that Kupala Night hadn't been a problem for many years, but it's only in the last few years that Zhodzina haven't had conditions for celebrating Kupala Night.
