Justice Ministry cannot make decision whether to register BCD or not

More than a month has passed after the documents for registration of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party were submitted.

However, the Justice Ministry of Belarus still cannot answer whether the Belarusian Christian Democratic party would be registered, Radio Svaboda informs.

It could be concluded from the conversation of the co-chairman of the organizing committee for creation of the BCD Ryhor Dzmitruk and the deputy head of the Department on not-for-profit organisations’ issues Alyaksei Pechkurau during the phone hot line dedicated to the topical issues of state registration and activities of public associations.

In particular, Dzmitruk noted that on June 13 the 5th founding congress of the BCD party was held, in a month documents for registration were submitted, however there is no answer from the Justice Ministry still. Instead of that, people who had given their signatures for foundation of the party, are pressurized by officials and told to withdraw their signatures.

In his turn, Pyachkurau admitted that no political parties in Belarus have been registered in recent years, but said that the Justice Ministry took decisions not to register parties basing upon the documents offered.

As for the BCD, he noted that the documents of the party had been considered, but the decision had not been taken, and it is to be revealed on or after August 18.

According to Ryhor Dzmitruk, the preliminary decision on registration or non-registration of the party has been already reached, but they have fear to disclose it at this point.

“That is why the representative of the Justice Ministry avoided direct answers and spoke in generalities,” he said.
