Day of Belarusian Military Glory marked in Lviv

1

Belarusians and Ukrainian celebrated in Lviv the 501st anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Orsha.

The celebrations were held on September 8, a correspondent of charter97.org reports. Belarusian singer-songwriter Andrei Melnikau sang patriotic songs and poet Slavamir Adamovich read his poems on Market Square. A rally with a big white-red-white flag through the central streets of Lviv was organised. The rally ended near Taras Shevchenko monument, where participants of the march laid flowers.

The Battle of Orsha took place on September 8, 1514. Forces of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania led by Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski defeated Moscow's troops and prevented the occupation of a big part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
