Ukraine may receive gas from Lithuanian LNG-terminal

Construction of "Lithuania-Poland" interconnector will create technical possibilities for the transportation of gas to Ukraine through the Lithuanian LNG-terminal.

Marius Janukonis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine said it, an UNIAN correspondent reported.

"We have [gas transportation] connections through Belarus, and now there are certain problems with the Belarusian side. We have to ask them about these issues. Although it is not happening today, our negotiations will continue, and I hope that one day we will be able to do this because the capacity of our LNG-terminal exceed your demand," said Janukonis during his speech at a discussion club themed "The role of Lithuania in Ukraine-EU relations."

However, he noted that "we still do not have connections with Poland; when we construct the interconnector, which is likely to take two or three years, we will be technically able to do it, I mean, to supply gas to Ukraine,” said the Ambassador.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in November 2014, the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite said during a visit to Kyiv that her country is ready to share experience with Ukraine in the construction of LNG-terminal in order to get rid of energy dependence on Russian Gazprom.
