Court “Conveyor Line” For Protests Against Police Lawlessness

An activist of the BCD, a businessman Vitaly Staurovich has been fined Br3,150,000 for a protest rally near the Supreme Court.

On February 12 the court of Maskouski district of Minsk punished the sole trader, the member of the organizing committee for creation of the Belarusian Christian Democratic Party Vitaly Staurovich by a fine of 15 basic units (Br3,150,000) for his participation in the protest rally near the Supreme Court on January 30. “It was a completely peaceful rally. We, sole traders, are hindered in our work, and besides, I have a child to support, and still they are squeezing us by more and more fines. It’s a total lawlessness,” – Vitaly Staurovich told bchd.info website.

Earlier charter97.org website informed that a protest rally Let’s Stop Lawlessness Of Policemen held near the building of the Supreme Court was held on January 30. According to human rights activists, who monitored the event, on that day policemen drew up reports for participation in an unsanctioned mass event against public activists and politicians – Anatol Liabedzka, Dzianis Krasachka, Volha Majorava, Maxim Viniarski, Natallia Harachka – Basalyha, Sviatlana Yakshyna, Mikalai Kazlou, Nina Bahinskaya, Vitaly Staurovich.

Court trials over the participants of the protest started on February 11. A number of activists has been fined already – Maxim Viniarski and Aliaksandr Makaeu were fined 50 basic units (Br10,500,000), Dzianis Krasachka – 20 basic units (Br4,200,000), Nina Bahinskaya – 25 basic units (Br5,250,000). The cases of Natallia Harachka, as well as the case of Sviatlana Yakshyna, have been postponed in order to correct discrepancy in the court record.

The cases of the two more participants of the protest – Anatol Liabedzka, Volha Majorava and Mikalai Kazlou – are to be tried in the court of Leninski district of Minsk on February 16.
