Trucks To Queue On Belarusian-Lithuanian Border, Blockade On Entrance To Ukraine

The freezing of cargo traffic between Russia and Poland since February 1 led to the collapse at the Belarusian border.
The State Border Committee of Belarus states the accumulation of freight transport in the Lithuanian direction of the Belarusian border.
140 trucks are waiting to leave and 10 trucks – to enter at the checkpoint Kameny Loh on the border with Lithuania. The situation is more difficult at the checkpoint Beniakoni, there are 130 trucks to travel from Belarus to Lithuania, and 250 trucks to enter Belarus. 120 trucks are waiting in the queue for leaving Belarus to Lithuania at the checkpoint Katlouka.
“Unless Russia and Poland agree on quotas of permits for transportation of trucks, all traffic will be carried out by Belarus and the Baltic States”, – press secretary of the State Border Committee of Belarus Aliaksandr Tsishchanka explained.
In his opinion the situation is far from being catastrophic, “Along with our Lithuanian colleagues we have deployed here additional human resources and the queue is not at a stop – it is moving slowly.”
We remind that queue of trucks on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border has significantly increased recently. The reason is the absence of an agreement between Russia and Poland: the parties have not agreed on quotas for truck transit. Russian cargo carriers rerouted their flow of cargo through Belarus: the first direction is the Baltic one – trucks are going through our country to the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania), the second one is the Ukrainian – drivers are travelling through Belarus to Ukraine and then to Hungary, Slovakia and beyond.
Ukrainian activists are blocking the passage through the country for trucks with Russian plates, which makes the situation even worse.
On February 12, the activists put up pickets near the border crossing point Domanovo (Volyn region, Ukraine) - Makrany (Brest region, Belarus). Today it became known that the Ukrainian activists have put up roadblocks in Zhytomyr region (on the border with Homel region) and Rivne region (bordering with Brest region). Besides, the truck are being blocked in Zakarpattia.
