“People’s Patience May Soon Be Over”

Authorities can “compress the spring” just up to a certain time.

“There are no alternatives to raising the retirement age in the existing demographic conditions,” - official “sociologist” Tatsiana Haplichnik expressed her opinion. According to her, the retirement age of 55 for women and 60 for men was established in completely different demographic conditions many decades ago.

Chairman of the public association of pensioners "”Our Generation” Tatsiana Zialko stated in her interview to Radio Racyja, that if the number of security forces employees and government officials were reduced, there would be no need to raise the retirement age:

– Today, this problem could be solved not by increasing the retirement age, but by minimizing the expenditures and reducing the number of government officials and security forces by 2/3. But Lukashenka is afraid to do so, because they are his base of power. So he says nothing about it. What is happening is like a coil spring. Yes, he keeps compressing it slowly. Yes, we are patient people. But there is nothing eternal in this world.

We remind that on April 11, Aliaksandr Lukashenka signed Decree No. 137 “On Retirement Age.” The Decree implies gradual annual increase of the retirement age by 6 months (men 63 years old, women – 58) since January 1, 2017.
