Aliaksandr Yarashuk: “House Of Representatives” Is To Legalize Slavery In Belarus

The main lobbyist of the new law is Labour Minister Maryanna Shchotkina.

As it became known, on June 30 the “house of representatives” is to consider and adopt in the first reading a draft of a bill enshrining in the Labour Code regulations of the Decree №29, which legalized the sweeping contract system in the country, and the Decree №5, which significantly tightened the working conditions of employees.

Leader of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Aliaksandr Yarashuk appealed to the Minister of Labour Maryanna Shchetkina with an open letter in which he calls her lobbying the bill cynical and hypocritical.

Charter97.org received the text of letter.

“The adoption of this law means that Belarus, which is in the top ten worst countries for workers according to the International Trade Union Confederation, will be a place where serfdom and slavery are enshrined entirely and permanently,” – Aliaksandr Yarashuk says.

“As soon as you are the key figure in the “house of representatives,” what does your lobbying this law stand for? If you find it difficult to answer, then I will: this is called cynicism and hypocrisy.

You can be sure that rather sooner than later the Belarusian authorities’ experiment on turning workers into a herd controlled by a whip will come to its end. And when that time comes, Belarusian workers will want hold to account those who participated in the deprivation of their basic labor rights,” – the leader of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Union wrote.
