Three Hours Given to Inform the Police About Settled Foreigners in Belarusian Hotels

Such amendments were adopted to the law on forced migration in the second reading on June 28.

Belarusian hotels settling foreign tourists will be obliged to inform the police within three hours, BelaPAN writes.

"Such amendments are caused by the national security and will promote to search of persons put on the international wanted list," Andrei Naumovich, Chairman of the "Parliamentary" Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media, stated at the meeting.

He noted the amendment was introduced while the preparation of the draft law to the second reading. The document also specifies rights of people with the refugee status.

The draft law also aims at improvement of the law system of Belarus in the sphere of forced migration and is designed to meet the state security, national interests and international best practices.

The key innovation is the introduction of a single delivery and consideration procedure on admission of the refugee status, complementary protection or asylum in Belarus.

Naumovich says 928 people have got a refugee status and 1 533 a complementary protection since 1997. "The introduction of a single procedure would reduce the period of stay of foreigners in Belarus, unreasonably applying for any form of protection. Time for consideration, as a rule, will not exceed six months," the "deputy" stated.
