Protest Action on Nezalezhnastsi Avenue

About a dozen residents of the house № 80 on the Nezalezhnastsi Avenue took the street in the evening of August 31 to get their message to the authorities.

Minsk dwellers demand to complete the capital repairs. The works have started in March 2013. However, the replacement of the heating system, repair of elevators have not been carried out yet, as well as other types of work. Tenants are given only formal replies.

Protesters unfurled a banner: "Rescue our house! Nezalezhnastsi Av, 80. We demand to complete capital repairs" . They collected signatures under other address to state authorities demanding "to strictly follow the plan of capital repairs."

Its resident Viktar Nyrkou shows one of the letters to housing and community amenities (HCA). He got two replies. Replies differ - first, they say a cut-out will be installed, second - they write about a light sensor, tut.by informs.

- This is not the answer, a pensioner resents, - no measures are being taken. We have paid for the repairs. What should I pay for now?

Other tenant of the house is Aliaksandr. He bought an apartment a few months ago and was not aware of the problem. He had a mild reaction: something is being done, if they are here.

- I was told that they have been taking repairs for four years already, he says. - I thought that such slum quarters exist only in Rio de Janeiro. The court is the place where children spend much time. A child came out to swing and he faces a construction site. Is it possible to introduce Minsk as a European capital then?

Natallia Litouskaya is the resident of this house as well. She is resented with absence of any attempts on the part of authorities to tackle the problem.

- The situation is as follows: we have only formal replies, she says.

She said that they tried to finish repairs until the World Ice Hockey Championship in 2014. Therefore, she says, the house was faced with the cheapest material, the cheapest windows were installed.

- It would be better if nothing had been done. It became even worse. The house turned into an 8-storey building on the outskirts. Flag marble was replaced with a cheap one. Counters are the cheapest as well. Someone offered to install counters on their own, but they got a denial. The broke the walls and tenants should repair them at their own expense. It is impossible to inform the public media.

Litouskaya draws attention to other problem. When it is warm outside visitors of the Botanical Garden and Chelyuskintsy Park leave their vehicles in the courtyard.

- They park cars on sidewalks and lawns, throw garbage and do the deed near the house. The traffic police offered us to buy barriers, she resents.

According to her, the residents managed to collect 85 signatures demanding the officials to solve their problems (there are 100 apartments in the house).

The appeal states that according to the project workers did not replace the heating system, held no garbage disposal repair, electrical works were not finished, the forced ventilation was not installed, and so on.

Above all, tenants require compensation for moral harm.
