Russian Citizen Fined For Attacking Car With Ukrainian Flag

Artur Khamenka has seen brutal fights on the road only on TV previously. He couldn’t even imagine that he would find himself in such kind of situation one day. On that day he was in a hurry to take his son to his training on time and he took over a Toyota with a Russian number plate. As a reaction to that, the Toyota driver cut Artur’s car off the road several times and then he jumped out of the car when they stopped at a red light.

“I rolled down the window; the Toyota driver came up from here and immediately hit me in the face. Later, when I wanted to get out of the car, he was holding the door of my car with his left hand, while trying to continue hitting me,” – Artur Khamenka tells and shows, how it happened.

At the same time, one of the passengers of the aggressive driver attacked the car of the Minsker too. As a result, one glass of the car cracked and a side mirror was broken. Artur thinks that not only the road which they didn’t share, was the reason of such aggressive behavior.

“Kill that khokhol (offensive epithet of Ukrainians used by Russians), he has khokhol’s flag!” They used such expressions. That is why I think that their attack and hooligan behavior were their reaction to the Ukrainian flag which I have on the panel in my car,” – Artur Khamenka says.

Cases where the supporters of the so-called “Russian world” are aggressive and try to dictate the rules in Belarus are more and more common. Just in July, at the “Expobel” market, some fans of Russian sorted things out with the activists of Young Front movement, who were wearing T-shirts with national symbols.

“The unity of the three nations has created an atmosphere where every fan of Russia believes that he can prove his right by physical force. And unfortunately, such conflicts are quite often,” – Zmitser Dashkevich, the leader of the Young Front movement, says.

In the majority of such cases, even the police officers do not take the victim’s side.

“There is some part of the adequate people among the officials, including law enforcement agencies, though a miserly amount of them. They don’t even make up some kind of critical mass. And even if the state apparatus was trying to turn around a little bit. And after the Crimea case it tries to take the other way. But the structure of the “Russian world” has been created for 20 years. And it’s not so easy to change it now,” – Zmitser Dashkevich continues.

Artur Khamenks received refusal to open a criminal case on the fact of beating, despite the presence of results of examination.
