Dzmitry Bandarenka, the coordinator of the European Belarus Civil Campaign, told the Basta! Telegram channel what the third anniversary of the uprising in Belarus means to him:

“The third anniversary of the Belarusian Revolution is a significant date for me. I was ashamed to be a Belarusian for several years until 2020.

Yes, we have many Heroes, worthy people, but for the most part, people were showing cowardice for a long time. It was a dawn for our country in 2020. Millions of Belarusians took to the streets of their cities.

Yes, we failed then, because there was a gap between the heroes who were fighting for freedom for many years and the majority, which was against the Lukashenka regime, but preferred to whisper in kitchens and stay in the shadows.

The whole world respected Belarusians in 2020. The leading world TV channels were broadcasting the footage from the streets of Belarusian cities for many months in a row. But no one will do our work for us. We need to finish the job. We need to free our Heroes languishing in prisons. We are to force out the insolent gang of collective farmers and start the path to a real, dignified and free life in a European country.
