Explosions In Dzhankoy: ISW Suggests Weapon Type

“Legitimate targets” were hit.

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) confirms the explosions at the military airbase of the Russian occupation forces in temporarily occupied Dzhankoi. Still, they can say nothing about the scale of the damage caused by the strike.

According to analysts, the explosions were visible on geolocation maps published on the night of April 16-17.

However, ISW has not yet noticed visual evidence of damage to any helicopters as a result of the strike. According to the ISW, Russian Mi-8, Mi-25M, Mi-28 and Ka-52 helicopters are based in Dzhankoi.

In addition, they mentioned information spread by a Kremlin-linked military blogger. In particular, in his opinion, Ukrainian forces used about 12 MGM-140 ATACMS missiles to strike the airbase.

"ISW cannot independently confirm at this time the type of ordinance Ukrainian forces used in this strike, nor the extent of damage the strike caused... Russian combat and transport helicopters have provided Russian forces with distinct offensive and defensive battlefield advantages, particularly in southern Ukraine, and are legitimate military targets. Ukrainian forces have previously conducted ATACMS strikes against Russian military helicopters at airbases in Berdyansk, Zaporizhia Oblast and Luhansk City, Luhansk Oblast in 2023," the experts summed up.
