The European Court for Human Rights is the only appropriate venue in which Emanuel Zeltser and Vladlena Funk could receive a fair impartial trial. It is my solemn hope that the Zeltser family will avail itself to appeal to the ECHR on behalf of Zeltser and Funk. He is a political prisoner, imprisoned not for the fabricated crime of possession of fraudulent documents related to the estate of Badri Patarkatsishvili or the commercial espionage he has been charged with committing but for the knowledge he possesses of crimes committed by Berezovsky on weapons trafficking through Belarus to Chechen terrorists and beyond.
ОтветитьThe NIS Nuclear Trafficking Database cites radioactive nuclear materials smuggled out of Belarus that is believed to be under investigation by Russian investigators as a possible source of the polonium 210 that was ingested by Alexander Litvinenko, which could tie Berezovsky to the supplier. Patarkatsishvili, an ardent defender of Andrei Lugovoy's innocence to the day he died, is believed to have been the source of the information. If true, that could put Berezovsky back on the top of the British Counterterrorism Command's lists of prime suspects along with Lugovoy, the latter of whom was in the employment of both Patarkatsishvili and Berezovsky on 1 November 2006, the day Litvinenko accidentally ingested the fatal dose of polonium 210 that is now believed to have been smuggled into London by Litvinenko, possibly through Lugovoy, for an unknown destination.
It is no coincidence that on 14 November 2006, just thirteen days after Litvinenko ingested the polonium 210. Patarkatsishvili flew to New York execute in secret a Durable Power of Attorney, prepared by Zeltser, his U.S. attorney of 14 years, conveying rights to his distant cousin, Joseph Kay, to manage his stock portfolio. During the secret meeting with Zeltser, Patarkatsishvili, in reference to Berezovsky, expressed his concern that he did not know whom he could trust anymore.
Berezovsky could not have found a more befitting cohort than Lukashenko, the last remaining dictator of Soviet era, to obtain a fraudulent conviction against Zeltser to silence him. With his health in dire condition, an appeal to the ECHR is the only avenue through which Zeltser has any hope of survival. Appeals to the Supreme Court of Belarus, as with the appeals from the U.S Department of State, will fall on deaf ears in Belarus.
