A politician and public activist Vyachaslau Siuchyk, who has become the first victim of repressions in the run-up to the meeting of market vendors on January 10.

Vyachaslau Siuchyk was illegally detained by policemen on January 9 in the evening. Under falsified report he was charged under Article 17.1 “use of bad language”. Judge Tatsyana Paulyuchuk sentenced the politician to 10 days of arrest.

Friends and family haven’t been able to meet Vyachaslau Siuchyk, as he was taken from Akrestsin Street detention center in an unknown direction a few hours earlier. He was to get home by a taxi.

46 political prisoners remain in Akrestsin Street detention center at the moment. All these people were arrested over the last 10 days after the protest rally of market vendors held on January 10 in Minsk.

Meanwhile, a trial over the Young Front member and the United Civil Party activist Aleh Korban is to take place on January 21. He was charged with alleged “use of bad language”.
