Young activists threatened with expulsion

3

“Young Front” activists Nastassya Loika and Tatsyana Shaputska are under threat of expulsion from Belarusian State University.

Nasta is a third-year student of the Law Faculty specialising in jurisprudence, Tatsyana is a first-year student studying political science.

Shydlouski, subdean on educational work of the law faculty, called Tatsyana Shaputska for a conversation on Thursday, and Nasta Loika – the next day.

“We were told we were under watch since November 7, when we were detained at the street action “Tribunal for Communism!”, because on the very day people from the KGB and the President’s Administration came to the rector of the university and brought some papers with them covering our public activity.

Papers from the court were sent to the university, and Preventing Council will take place on Monday, where they will decide whether we will be given a severe reproof but continue study, or we will be expelled from university,” Tatsyana Shapoutska said.

The Statute of the university says a student may be expelled for a wilful offence. However, the activist hope the university administration will choose a reproof for the first time.
