Russia and Belarus to conduct military exercises Autumn-2009 and West-2009

Russia's Defense Ministry has decided to hold Autumn-2009 and West-2009 joint military exercises with Belarus Armed Forces. Among the reasons of training events in South Ossetia were named.
General Nikolai Makarov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, told it at a meeting with foreign military attaches, accredited in Moscow.
“Combat training in the Russian Armed Forces will be more intensive. Next year we are planning to hold the Autumn-2009 and West-2009 strategic exercises, involving a large number of personnel from several military districts, fleets, and the Belarusian Armed Forces,” Makarov said.
