The head of the Belarusian MFA arrived in Iran after his visit to Poland, thus demonstrating the direction of Lukashenka’s policy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Syarhei Martynau discussed main directions of Belarus–Iran relations with the Iranian leadership in the course of his visit to Tehran.

Interfax learnt this from the press service of the Belarusian MFA.

“The Belarusian foreign minister had meetings with president of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Ali Ardashir Larijani, and Head of the Presidential Office of Iran Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie. The parties discussed prior directions of cooperation between Belarus and Iran,” the Belarusian MFA says.

Besides, the press service notes that “urgent problems of the bilateral trade and economic interaction and the implementation of major joint Belarusian-Iranian projects” were discussed the Belarusian Foreign Minister and by Iranian Commerce Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari and Masoud Mir Kazemi, Petroleum Minister.

Martynau also had talks with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki and Iranian Minister of Industry and Mines Ali Akbar Mehrabian.

As charter97.org has already reported, Alyaksandr Lukashenka plans to pay a visit to Iran this year. His visit will be timed to start of oil production in Jofeir oil field, Seyyed Abdollah Hosseini, the ambassador f Iran to Belarus, said last week.

On February 11, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proclaimed Iran to be a nuclear state. The United State imposed new sanctions on Iran on the same day.
