Who ordered to wiretap presidential candidates?

The General Prosecutor’s Office hides who authorized wiretapping of presidential candidates.

In July, then prosecutor general Ryhor Vasilevich said about an inquiry over wiretapping. He did not say about the results and added he needed to look at documents, “Nasha Niva” informs.

A month ago, “NN” addressed to the General Prosecutor’s Office now led by Alyaksandr Krasnyuk.

The newspaper asked to provide information about the inquiry results. Who authorized wiretapping of Dzmitry Uss, Mikalai Statkevich, Andrei Sannikov and Uladzimir Nyalyaeu, if it was any warrant, and on what ground?

“I bring to your attention that the acting legislation of the Republic of Belarus does not give an opportunity for prosecuting agencies to provide you with the information you have requested,” the reply from the General Prosecutor’s Office said.

Wiretapping was not a secret before, but only after the 2010 elections this fact has been looked at with pride.

State-run media were the first to report about tapping of presidential candidates.

A fuller picture began to emerge during trials against participants of the post-election protests.
