Jewish graves robbed in Loyeu

Local dwellers were looking for valuables in graves at a Jewish cemetery.

As BelaPAN learned from a chief inspector of the information and public relations office at the Homel Region Investigation Committee, Maria Kryvanohava, two graves were dug up at the city Jewish cemetery in Loyeu. The Loyeu department of the Investigation Committee opened a case under part 1 of article 347 of the Criminal Code (abuse of corpse or desecration of graves).

One of the graves was dug up to remains, the other one was dug up partially. The fact of desecration of the graves was revealed by a relative of the buried man who came to clean the grave on April 23 ahead of Radonitsa, the day of commemoration of dead.

Two jobless dwellers of Loyeu are suspected of committing the crime. Both of them, a woman born in 1957 and a man born in 1960 are known for their anti-social behavior. The suspects were detained and taken to a detention facility. Investigators suppose their purpose was to look for valuables in the graves.

Two spades, gloves, men's clothes, a coverlet, five empty wine bottles, dishes and other items were found on the scene of the crime. Officers of the regional department of the Investigation Committee carry out  an investigation. DNA  and fingerprinting tests and a trace examination are to be held..
