Valery Ukhnalyou banned from leaving Belarus

Valery Ukhnalyou, the deputy head of the Belarusian Left Party “Fair World”, was not allowed to cross the state border this morning.

The politician told this to a correspondent of the website “Tovarisch.online”.

“I was going to Vilnius,” Valery Ukhanlyou says. “A border guard at Kamenny Loh checkpoint checked my passport and ordered me to follow him to the personnel room, where I was told I was banned from travelling abroad.”

The politician says he was not given the reason for the denial: “They said they do not issue notices and comment on their actions. Border guards just recommended to appeal to my local registration office.”

Valery Ukhnalyou says he was not upset, because he “expected this”.

He linked the travel ban to his political activity: “I can say for sure: it is the travel ban not for citizen Ukhnalyou, but for the deputy head of the 'Fair World' party.”

We remind that a number of opposition politicians, journalists and human rights activists have been banned from leaving Belarus in the last few weeks.
