Arrest for refusal of being a “rat”

The KGB threatens an opposition activist with arrest for failure to inform on his friend.

Syarhei Lis, a member of the United Civil Party, said he had been stopped by road police on no grounds last week as he was returning from Hrodna to Azyory, Viasna humanA man rights centre reports.

A man in mufti spoke to Lis asking about another dweller of the village of Azyory, UCP member Kiryl Semyanchuk, who left for Warsaw after the elections and applied for political asylum there. The man, whom Syarhei Lis suspects of being a KGB officer, tried to intimidate him and even threatened with a 15-day arrest if he refused to give the necessary information about Semyanchuk.
