Belarusian mercenaries in Tripoli?

Several citizens of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine were accused of aiding Gaddafi’s regime.

The new Libyan government pressed charges against a group of former-USSR citizens from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, detained in August 2011 in Tripoli, for aiding Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, a source from diplomatic circles told Gazeta.Ru.

Previously on Thursday the Ukrainian Foreign Office informed about the trial of Ukrainians in Tripoli.

The Russian Foreign Ministry could not comment on the trial in Libya for Gazeta.Ru. Neither does the Russian Embassy in Libya give any comments. “We don’t possess any information,” the Embassy said.

The names of the Russian citizens suspected of aiding Gaddafi’s regime are not reported. It is known that in early September Libyan rebels detained Russian Vladimir Dolgov and Aleksandr Shadrov. They were suspected of aiding in maintenance of Gaddafi’s tanks.

Konstantin Dolgov, Russian Foreign Ministry Commissioner for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, mentioned the two Russian citizens held in Libya.

Some sources report that there can be Belarusian citizens among the persons detained by rebels. Belarus Foreign Ministry press-secretary Andrei Savinykh could neither confirm nor refute this information.
