Bundestag deputy: Europe is responsible for repression in Belarus

Bundestag deputy Manuel Sarazin supported the campaign for the 2014 World Cup removal from Minsk.

'I strongly support the campaign for the removal of the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship from Belarus as a person who travelled to Belarus and who is friend with many Belarussian people who fight for their rights. We cannot accept that the dictator Lukashenko doesn’t fulfil basic human rights demands. He wants to exploit the championship to achieve a good reputation. As an European I feel responsibility for the people in Belarus and especially for the victims of the cruel regime in this country. I therefore ask the International Ice Hockey Federation to pay attention to the political situation in Belarus and to host the Championship in another country if Lukashenko doesn’t guarantees human rights. He has to free political prisoners, to ensure the freedom of expression and to abolish death penalty,' - said he.
