Lukashenko hopes on the protection of CSTO

Belarusian dictator relies on the protection of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to "call in the information sphere."

The current session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is an anniversary one: the Collective Security Treaty celebrates the 20th birthday and the organization itself turns 10 today. Therefore, the heads of all CSTO states arrived in Moscow: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

First, participants discussed how to enhance the role of the organization in a narrow format. Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus has always supported and will always support initiatives and table proposals regarding deepening of cooperation within the CSTO. Moreover, he stressed that the CSTO has not only to enhance the military component, but also broaden interaction with regard to foreign policy pressure counteraction, sanctions and information attacks. Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus is ready to cooperate with such international organizations as the UN, OSCE and NATO to provide peaceful arrangement of conflicts.

After the talks in a narrow format, the attendees held the talks in an expanded format. The heads of the CSTO countries summarized results of the activity of the organization for the 10 year period. A declaration with a joint assessment of the international situation and the CSTO activities will become an outcome of the summit.

During Belarus’ presidency in the CSTO in 2006, the organization welcomed one more country – Uzbekistan. “I think it is not the last country to join it,” the Belarusian leader said.

He noted that the international weight of the CSTO grew not only due to the active stance of the member states, but also thanks to a better teamwork inside the organization.
