Rymasheuski: BCD supports only boycott

Vital Rymasheuski, one of the leaders of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BCD), says he stands for boycotting the “parliamentary election”.

“I'd rather not call it boycotting the 'election', because there are no elections in Belarus. It is boycotting the farce, the deceit of the people of Belarus  that will be held under the guise of the 'election' in the Republic of Belarus. The BCD will oppose this brutal deceit, which the Belarusian authorities try to organize even today.

The date of the 'election' has been announced today. None of conditions proposed by democratic forces was implemented. Political prisoners are still in jail suffering from increased pressure. No amendments to the electoral legislation have been made, the situation of NGOs, political parties and freedom of press remains the same. Every politician, who does not depend on Lukashenka, should evaluate this 'election' right now. It cannot be recognized. Even today, this 'election' is neither free nor democratic,” Rymasheuski told Radio Svaboda.
