Valery Fralou: Bordyuzha checks if Lukashenka is ready to “throw himself under tanks”

General Valery Fralou said in an interview for charter97.org he linked the visits of Russian officials to their desire to check if the Belarusian dictator is ready to defend Russia.

The politician comments on the latest visits of Russian officials to Minsk and their criticism of the EU policy towards Belarus. We remind General Secretary of the Cooperation and Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Nikolay Bordyuzha, said: “The sanctions on Belarus are ungrounded and unacceptable, and restrictions on entering countries are an anachronism.” A similar position was voiced out yesterday by Russian Foreign Minister Syarhei Lavrov.

“Russian officials defend Lukashenka because they count on a deeper integration in the post-Soviet area. Russia creates EurAsEC as a counter to the European Union. It is important for them to support their allies in the proccess. Moreover, Lukashenka needs help now as never before,” Valery Fralou told charter97.org in an interview.

Talking about the reasons for the increased number of visits of Russian high-ranking officials to Minsk, the politician said the events relating to the Swedish aircraft flight over Belarus had influenced it.

“Bordyuzha and Lavrov came to Minsk also to check how the words of Lukashenka, who poses himself as the defender of western frontiers, reflect the reality. The recent events gave a ground to Russia's leaders to doubt this statement. In this situation, it wouldn't be strange to check if Lukashenka is ready to “throw himself under the tanks driving to Moscow”.

Valery Fralou also shared his vision of prospects for the Russian-Belarusian relations.

“It's important to note that Belarus has not carried out the reforms that Russia already had. Russia is a member of lots of international organization, while Belarus is not. It's hard to say how long Moscow will back the unreformed Belarusian economy. Our government should thinks about it. We cannot live our life begging all the time,” he said.
