Two officials were thrown behind bars together with Viktar Pilipets.
First deputy head of Homel regional executive committee Alyaksandr Baranau and former aide to Lukashenka and chief inspector for Homel region Ihar Prakapenka were detained by the Homel Department of the Investigation Committee over housing frauds, odsgomel.org website writes.
Ihar Prakapenka was relieved of his post on September 6. On September 17, he voluntary withdrew from the election race in Navabelitsa constituency, where he ran as a pro-governmental parliament candidate. Alyaksandr Lukashenka said on September 21:
“Some officials re-sold dozens of flats and kept the money, as it happened in Homel. A criminal case has been initiated. Certain officials, their relatives and close associated will be tried.”
As the website learned from its sources, the head of state meant Ihar Prakapenka and Alyaksandr Baranau in addition to Viktar Pilipets and other four official detained earlier in connection with the case.
Prakapenka and Baranau were brought the same charges as Pilipets – abuse of power (part 3 of article 426 of the Criminal Code of Belarus).
