Investigation Committee: Pilipets arrested

Rumours about suicide of a former city head are circulating in Homel.

A former head of the Homel city executive committee, Viktar Pilipets who now occupies the post of deputy director of Gomelagropromproekt company, has been arrested, Interfax-West news agency learned on Wednesday from the Belarusian Investigation Committee.

Some media reported on August 6 about the arrest Viktar Pilipets, the then chair of the city executive committee. The city head appeared at work on August 7 and the city executive committee released official statement refuting the information about his detention.

Viktar Pilipets was relieved of his post of the chair of the Homel city executive committee and moved to another position on August 27.

Sinister rumours have appeared in Homel amid lack of  information about the former city head. He is said to have committed suicide and been buried.

A university teacher from Homel contacted Narodnaya Volya newspaper on Tuesday evening and said on conditions of anonymity he had heard about the death of the former city head from several people during the day.
