Military and police officers banned to receive Cards of the Pole

Members of parliament adopted amendments to a number of laws today.

Officers of the internal affairs bodies, the Financial Investigation Department, the Ministry of Taxes and army employees cannot receive documents from foreign countries that give the right to benefits and privileges for political or religious views and nationality, Radio Svaboda reports.

This restriction follows from amendments to some laws adopted by the “house of representatives” in the first reading. The only exception are conscripted soldiers.

The same restriction was imposed on civil servants two years ago. Minister of Defence Yury Zhadobin said the above-mentioned categories of citizens are also civil servants. When signing employment agreements, they must hand over the documents to the employer within 5 days. Zhadobin said nothing about particular countries, but MPs say on the sidelines that the measure is supposed to curb the spread of the Card of the Pole.

Belarus launched a campaign against the Card of the Pole some time ago, but it cannot be called successful.
