Radoslaw Sikorski proposes to abolish visas for Belarusians

The Polish foreign minister thinks the visa regime with Belarus should be softened.

The European Commission proposed a visa-free regime to Moldova yesterday. The same proposal can be made to Belarus, but the country should fulfill four conditions, Radio Racyja quotes Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

“Poland issues a lot of Schengen visas to Belarus. Poland also proposed, signed and ratified the Agreement on the Local Border Traffic. Four conditions should be fulfilled to abolish Schengen visas: control on the border, a readmission agreement, biometric passports and a database of such passports and a good political climate between the country and the EU. Belarus doesn't meet some of these conditions,” he said.

We remind that Poland proposed Belarus in early November to abolish visas on a mutual basis. This statement was made at a press conference by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Belarus Leszek Szerepka.

“We stand for maximum facilitation of the visa regime with Belarus and abolition of visas. Poland wants to fully abolish visas for Belarusians,” the head of the Polish diplomatic mission said.
