Slovak MFA: Minsk diverts attention from political prisoners

In Bratislava, the Belarusian authorities have advised to focus on the problems of human rights violations at home.

It was stated in the statement of the Slovak MFA on the human rights report issued by the MFA of Belarus.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic notes that the Foreign Ministry of Belarus intends to focus on the human rights situation in foreign countries, including Slovakia in its document "»Human rights violations in some countries in 2012».

«The Slovak Ministry expresses its astonishment that such report has been released by the Republic of Belarus, the only European country not yet admitted to full membership in the Council of Europe, as a result of long-standing and systematic violations of its own citizens’ rights. We strongly denounce this initiative by the Belarusian leadership, which is an attempt to divert attention from demands of the international democratic community for the release and rehabilitation of political prisoners, respect for political and civil rights», - said in the statement.

The Slovak Republic is ready to continue assisting Belarus in democratic reforms.
