Meeting of Yanukovych and Lukashenka may alert Kremlin

Moscow will not like Lukashenka's intention to visit Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed by political observer Raman Yakauleuski. Information about Lukashenka's' visit to Ukraine and meeting with Viktor Yanukovych appeared yesterday, udf.by reports.

“Taking into account that official information about Lukashenka's visit to Ukraine appeared all of a sudden, he seems to be ready for conciliation with Yanukovych. Kyiv is reported to wait for a copy of the instrument of ratification of the state border treaty. We can suppose that after receiving the official document Kyiv will be ready to forgive Lukashenka for his scandalous remarks about the Ukrainian leadership. Relations between the two rulers will likely to normalise,” Raman Yakauleuski said.

The political observer noted the official information about the meeting appeared ahead of Russia Day, the main official holiday in the neighbouring country.

“We should pay attention to the time when information about Lukashenka's plans to visit Ukraine appeared. It's interesting to note that Kyiv was not mentioned in official reports. The time surprisingly coincides with the state holiday – Russia Day. Moscow should notice this fact taking into account the country's difficult relations with Lyiv. The meeting between Lukashenka and Yanukovych in Ukraine, perhaps in an informal atmosphere, may alert the suspicious Kremlin,” Raman Yakauleuski underlined.

Lukashenka and Yanukovich had a phone conversation yesterday and agreed on a meeting in Kyiv.

They last met in Kazakhstan at the end of May. The over-talkative Belarusian ruler provoked a scandal at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana. During a ceremony of signing technical documents after the talks of the Customs Union heads of state Lukashneka said with a laugh: “Yanukevych seems never to come here”, when the microphone was on.
