Belarusian MPs not interested in local border traffic

Members of the “house of representatives” don't want to ask Lukashenka about local border traffic with Poland.

MP Viktar Valiushytski, a former director of the Brest Central Department Store, became the last MP from Brest who answered the request of local residents about local border traffic. Brest residents are not satisfied with formal replies from the MPs who say that the request was sent for consideration in the governmental bodies. The new request to Brest MPs asked why none of them asked Lukashenka about local border traffic at his annual address to people and parliament in April. More than 2,000 signatures were collected for implementation of the rules of local border traffic with Poland.

MP Valiantsin Milasheuski explains his decision not to ask Lukashenka about the problem by a reference to deputy prime minister Piotr Prakapovich, who said the issue of local border traffic was being examined for taking a positive decision.

As charter97.org learnt from Uladzimir Vuek, one of initiators of the request, MP Milasheuski recommended him to contact his colleague Viktar Valiushytski for details, because Uladzimir lives in Valiushytski's election district.

According to Vuek, Valiushytski answered that he saw “unfair notes of irritation” in the request. Viktar Valiushytski says he didn't ask Lukashenka about local border traffic, because the request of Brest residents had been re-sent to the Council of Ministers and Lukashenka had already spoken on the matter. The MP quotes Lukashenka's answer to the question of a PAP (Polish Press Agency) journalist at a press conference in January 2013. Lukashenka said: “There are some problems that raise our concerns. As soon as we receive certain guarantees from them [the Polish authorities] and see their friendly policy, we will take these decisions.”

Viktar Valiushytski underlined that Lukashenka's position on the issue was expressed, published and commented on in the press, so he didn't find it necessary to ask the same question again.
