MFA doesn't recognise mandate of UN Special Rapporteur

The Belarusian authorities continue to refuse to work with Miklos Haraszti.

“Belarus's position remains unchanged: We do not recognise the mandate of the special rapporteur and will not work with him,” Belarusian MFA spokesman Andrei Savinykh said to Interfax West news agency commenting on the decision of the UN Human Rights Council to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Belarus for one year.

The UN Human Rights Council has today extended the mandate of Special Rapporteur on Belarus Miklos Haraszti. Haraszti wasn't able to visit Belarus for a year, because the Belarusian authorities refused to issue him an entry visa. On June 4, the Special Rapporteur on Belarus presented his report criticising the Belarusian authorities to the UN Human Rights Council.
