The ruler stubbornly continues to appoint the persons involved in repression to high-ranking posts.
Anatol Liabedzka, the head of the United Civil Party (UCP), spoke to chartre97.org about the appointment of EU blacklisted Uladzimir Putsila as judge of the Supreme Council.
“I must say that I am acquainted with Putsila. This appointment confirms the stable trend of the authorities' stake on odious people. It means the subs' bench is not big, so the regime selects the people who proved their loyalty through repression, who are involved in discriminatory actions. I think this judge could make a career only in Belarus, Cuba or North Korea, in authoritarian countries. He couldn't be successful even on a district level in a country with the independent judicial branch,” the politician said.
He added that the ruler would continue to select such persons, whom he called “Lukashenka's stripper clip”.
“We have to admit that we have no independent judicial system. It is nothing more than a department of the administration of the Belarusian ruler. A new person cannot change the trend, because the system uses the 'telephone justice'. Decisions on all cases relating to politics are made after a call from Lukashenka's administration,” Anatol Liabedzka said.
Belarusian “MPs” today approved the appointment of Aliaksandr Pautau and Uladzimir Putsila as judges of the Supreme Court.
The decision was taken at the closing meeting of the second session of the “council of the republic.
Uladzimir Putsila was added to the list of Belarusian officials subject to the EU entry ban on February 27, 2012. He is known for delivering politically motivated judgements against opposition activists.
